Driving License Category A2
The category A2 driving licence permits you to drive motorcycles without a sidecar with a maximum engine power of 35 kW. Its power/weight ratio must not exceed 0.2 kW/kg.
This driving license was created to allow you to obtain your small motorcycle driving licence early and then progress to the A2 licence with more engine power.
Scooters and motorcycles
The second level of motorcycle licence is the driving licence category A2. It allows you to drive mopeds and small motorcycles up to 50cc. The goal of the class is to allow you to gradually ascend the ladder of engine power and cautiously fantasize about a larger one. The test is more difficult and requires more theory.
The category A2 driver's license is valid until the age of 24. It is valid alongside the category A1 car driving licence or as part a provisional driver's license. If you are over 24 years, however, the full category B driving license is required to drive motorcycles with a power output of more than 35 kW.
You can get an A1 group driving license at the age of 16 (in Denmark and Malta, 15 and in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia, 14). Once you are over the age of 16 you will need to take the A2 category motorbike test. You must pass the test before you turn 18. After two years, you can move to category A.
After passing the test in category A2, you are allowed to drive a motorbike with or without a sidecar, and vehicles on three wheels with a power of up to 35 kW. They must also have a power/weight ratio of not greater than 0.2 kg/kW and must not be built from a vehicle with twice the power of the maximum.
If you have passed the two-part examination for a motorcycle or moped that is lower in class since 1st Jul 1996, you may skip the theory exam and only take the practical exam. You can ride a small moped or scooter equipped with L plates, or get the new AM licence that will allow you to ride 50cc bikes with a maximum speed of 45mph. The AM licence is only valid if you've passed the test in your theory and have completed nine hours of training divided into practical and theory lessons at a driving school.
Vehicles with four wheels
This category includes all motorized vehicles with four wheels, excluding passenger cars and buses. It also includes utility vehicles such as vans, pickups, and panels. In addition, there are campers, motor homes and lorries. This category also includes vehicles such as ambulances, hearses and carryalls that are designed to accommodate more than eight passengers or have a maximum authorised mass of 500 kg. A1 drivers are able to operate vehicles of this type with a trailer weighting up to 775kg.
You must have passed the theory test to drive a vehicle in this category. You must pass 12 90-minute lessons on basic material, and 4 90-minute lessons on the additive (category AA2). The theory tests require an average score of 70%.
If you pass the theory test, you'll have to do a practical driving test on private property and on public roads. Once you have passed both tests, you will receive an application for a driving license. You must present this request to the local authority within three years after passing the practical test.
After passing your driving test, it's possible to start driving vehicles that fall in the category of A2. In some countries, if you hold an A1 license for two years, there is no need to take a separate test to obtain an A2 driving licence, which allows you to operate motorcycles up 35 kW. This permits you to get familiar with less powerful two-wheelers before upgrading to more powerful machines.
If you hold a category A2 driving licence you can also ride tricycles if it has the capacity of cylinders up to 125cc and an output of not more than 11 kW. This category was formerly part of the A license. Drivers who had an A category licence prior to 19th January 2013 were entitled to ride mopeds and keep the right.
Motor vehicles with 5 or more wheels

This classification was previously used for trucks (vans minivans, minivans, panel, pickups as well as sport utility vehicles) and buses that carry more than 16 passengers. However, a different set of federal requirements that govern uniform licensing standards for commercial vehicle drivers follows a slightly different definition which excludes vehicles that have gross weight ratings of 26,001 or more.
In addition, the category A2 driving license may also be used to drive a moped, motor-driven bike, or motorcycle. This type of license is only valid for motors with an cylinder capacity of 125 cubic centimeters, or a maximum power of 15 Kilowatts. It can also be used to drive a motor tricycle. The minimum age for this license class is 16 years old. Physically disabled people could also be able to drive motor tricycles in category A1 or A.

Manufacturers importers, manufacturers and import experts often require agency interpretations of proper classification of their vehicles. As a result, NHTSA has created a variety of guidelines to help guide the classification of these vehicles. These guidelines include:
Motor vehicles that have trailers
Category A2 comprises motor vehicles with trailers. These are not vehicles that are pulled by the driver, but are pulled behind larger vehicles, such as cars. For example the tractor that pulls a trailer would fall under this category, as would small trucks that have been designed for carrying loads, like those used by painters or plumbers to transport tools and other supplies to their work sites. The maximum authorised mass (MAM) for this class is 8,250kg.
